tcEXPRESS / JDBC – High Performance JDBC component
for IBM DB2
tcEXPRESS - DB2 JDBC driver
Using tcEXPRESS/JDBC any JDBC-capable application can access DB2 or DB2 UDB databases on platforms like IBM z/OS, OS/390, MVS, VSE, z/VSE, VM, MS-Windows, AIX and Linux.
tcEXPRESS-JDBC uses IBM's DRDA (Distributed Relational Database Architecture). Java-applications and Java-applets can use the JDBC-interface to easily access all DB2 data (retrieve, update, insert, delete).

tcEXPRESS/JDBC provides full SQL-functionality and allows usage of Stored Procedures. tcEXPRESS/JDBC supports Multi-Threading and Multiple Result Sets.
Providing direct access to DB2 data in heterogeneous system environments eliminates the need for expensive replication procedures. This guarantees a high degree of accurate and real-time data access for the end user.
tcEXRESS/JDBC can run on any machine hosting a Java Virtual Machine Version 1.1 and higher. This enables tcEXPRESS/JDBC to run on a variety of UNIX-systems, Linux, MS-Windows and IBM-Mainframes.
Access to DB2 databases on a Mainframe is accomplished by using TCP/IP. No additional software-components or proprietary gateways on the IBM-Mainframe are required.
tcEXPRESS/JDBC only uses minimum resources. Little administration- and software-distribution efforts are required. Implementation of a JDBC based application can be done in a short period of time and with little resources.

System requirements
The tcEXPRESS-JAVA-version can be executed on all JAVA-enabled platforms.
The tcEXPRESS/DRDA driver supports the JDBC standard of version 3 and requires a JDK 1.4 or a browser, which supports JDK 1.4.
A special version of the tcEXPRESS/DRDA driver is available, which only supports the JDBC standard of version 2 and hence only needs a JDK 1.2 or 1.3 or a browser supporting JDK 1.2, or 1.3.
In a Microsoft Windows environment, the Microsoft JVM version 1.1.4 or the corresponding Microsoft Internet Explorer will be sufficient, if only methods of JDBC standard version 1 will be used.

Communication protocol
TCP/IP is being used as communication protocol. To connect correctly, the port specified for DRDA requests must be reachable. Connection can be direct or via a router or proxy-server.
JDBC-Integration of relational and non-relational mainframe-data
In combination with tcACCESS all other mainframe-file structures like VSAM, IMS/DB, DL1, Adabas, CA-Datacom/DB, CA-IDMS/DB etc. can be accessed using standard SQL-commands and can be integrated into any desktop- or Client-Server-application using JDBC. For more detailed information refer to the tcACCESS product description.
