B.O.S. Software attended the Spring conference of GSE for z/VSE, z/VM and Linux on System z in Würzburg, Germany (April 19 to 21, 2010)
Already for 11 years B.O.S. Software remains loyal to the working group z/VSE, z/VM and Linux on System z. Like in 2009 B.O.S. Software attended the conference not only as a vendor, a customer also presented a paper about a successful implementation of tcVISION.
Mr. Wolfgang Schrul of EADS Military Air Systems, Manching, Germany, talked about the implementation of tcVISION. EADS uses tcVISION to perform a real time data synchronization between DL/I, VSAM and
MS-SQLServer. Wolfgang Schrul presented his experiences with tcVISION during the implementation phase and production use. He also talked about the challenges
when synchronizing classical mainframe data structures with relational data models.
Our regular attendance at the conference proves our commitment and engagement for the VSE market. B.O.S. presented important strategic new functions and features of tcVISION at the conference exhibition.

tcACCESS customer Kommunale Datenverarbeitungszentrale (KDVZ) Rhein-Erft-Ruhr, Frechen presents their tcACCESS solution at the annual IMS GUIDE conference in Darmstadt, Germany
KDVZ Rhein-Erft-Rur is a service provider for government agencies of various cities in the Rheinland area (Erftkreis, Kreis Düren and Kreis Euskirchen). KDVZ explained to the over 60 attendants at the IMS GUIDE conference how they use tcACCESS to access their IBM Mainframe data (OS/390, IMS/DC, IMS/DB, DB2), enabling customers, running MS-Windows PCs, to query and use the data in various PC applications.
Right at the beginning, tcACCESS has bee4n fully integrated into the existing RACF security concept, to ensure continued acceptance of existing security policies and regulations. The ODBC component of tcACCESS is being used, to access IMS data bases from MS-Back Office applications using plain and simple SQL commands.
The implementation of tcACCESS was easy and straight forward. Existing Copybooks, describing the IMS segment structures have been automatically imported by tcACCESS to make these structures available to Client applications in a relational format. During the import process, the administrator gets detailed information about every imported field (field length, field type i.e. numeric, character, packed, hexadecimal, binary etc.). tcACCESS uses these structures to automatically convert the mainframe sources into the corresponding PC data format.
The KDVZ users access the IMS data bases using these relational structures. Access is being performed out of MS-WORD and MS-ACCESS applications. Some users use MS-EXCEL to access the data and generate reports. The important thing to notice is, that these users do not need to perform any programming.
KDVZ pointed out, that they have been able to access very complex and complicated IMS segment structures and thanked B.O.S. for an excellent support from the very first minute. Additional projects are under development.

Successful participation of B.O.S. at the GSE VSE spring conference in Eisenach
At this conference users of the IBM VSE operating system could find out, how easy it is, to access any kind of mainframe file from Client/server or Web applications using tcACCESS. TcACCESS was presented at the booth of B.O.S. in a live environment using the VSE mainframe of our development labs in Haar. Mr. Scherr, Manager IT of Merck, Finck & Co., a bank located in Munich, gave a presentation in front of over 100 attendants, explaining how his company is using tcACCESS to query data stored in ADABAS data bases and VSAM files and to integrated this data into MS-Office applications.
The concept of the tcACCESS solution was extremely well accepted by the audience. A lot of attendants were actually looking for a solution to access mainframe data from PC based applications easily and with no programming effort. Based on the good experiences Merck, Finck & Co, have made, the bank is now planning to develop JAVA based applications and access mainframe resources with tcACCESS. The SQL support, which is available for all file structures eases the integration process of these legacy files into Internet and Intranet applications and drastically reduces the programming effort.

Due to the user friendly tcACCESS concept no host knowledge is required to extract, read or update CA-IDMS data from a desktop or a web application.
