tcACCESS has a modular design. It consists of a basic system which can be implemented on the IBM z mainframe using either CICS or VTAM. The basic system contains own communication modules. At the heart is the tcACCESS SQL-Engine which allows for direct access to mainframe data via SQL commands. This only requires giving the structures of the existing data to the tcACCESS system which can be done very easily through the integrated mapping functions.

On the part of the client, tcACCESS also has own communication modules. Therefore, no additional middleware for information exchange between mainframe and Client (server or workstation) is required. The tcACCESS Client component is available as ODBC driver and server, JDBC server/driver, and .NET and OLE DB support for MS-Windows, UNIX, Linux, and all Java platforms.

tcACCESS supports all common connections between IBM Z mainframes and Client or server systems such as TCP/IP, 3270 terminal emulations, TELNET 3270, and APPC- or LU6.2 connections.
